Our Business, Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (BBES) programme was created in 2009 as a direct response to the increasing demand for data, tools and guidance from a range of business sectors. The programme builds on our existing long-term engagement with business through the Proteus Partnership and focuses on providing business with relevant information and guidance on biodiversity to facilitate a transition from policy to performance. UNEP-WCMC’s Climate Change and Biodiversity Programme has been providing decision makers with policy-relevant information, syntheses and analyses on the linkages between climate change and biodiversity since 1998. Our core work focuses on the impacts of climate change and climate policy on biodiversity and ecosystem services, and on the role of biodiversity and ecosystem services in climate change mitigation and adaptation.More
UNEP-WCMC actively supports the development and implementation of policy at all levels through improving access to the data, information and knowledge necessary for supporting decision making. Much of this work supports the implementation of Multilateral Environmental Agreements (MEAs), both at the global and local scales. The Ecosystem Assessment Programme incorporates research, synthesis, facilitation and capacity-support to improve information and knowledge regarding biodiversity and ecosystems, and its availability to and use by decision-makers. Key technical areas within the Programme include work on biodiversity indicators and assessments, ecosystem services and their values for people, and support to policy processes at national, regional and global scales.More

The Protected Areas Programme manages the World Database on Protected Areas www.protectedplanet.net and develops and supports the scientific basis for the valuation of protected areas, assesses the management and ecological effectiveness of these areas, and monitors this performance at a global level.
We provide support for protected area networks, such as World Heritage Sites and Indigenous and Community Conserved Areas, and work on ensuring the long-term sustainability of protected areas.More
The Species Programme supports the conservation and sustainable use of animals and plants worldwide.
We provide support to the biodiversity-related conventions through the management of species-related data and information. We manage and analyze species data and make this information available in various formats for access by all.
