Development and communications form the two major strands of Sophie’s work at UNEP-WCMC. Working across the Centre’s programmes, Sophie focuses on facilitating project development and funding processes, with the aim of ensuring the continued flow of relevant work into the Centre. She is also responsible for developing our communications processes, both internally and externally. This covers a wide range of areas, from processes to sharing information between programmes, to supporting Centre-wide communications with the rest of the biodiversity research community.
Sophie has a BA in Zoology and an MSc in Forestry. She joined UNEP-WCMC in October 2012, following four years with a communications company, working primarily with organisations engaged in natural resources research for development. Previously she spent many years working on forestry projects in both the private and public sectors in Latin America and the UK. When not working, Sophie likes to cycle and play squash.
